Our Daily & Weekly Homeschool Routines
Homeschooling three kids means our days are full and dynamic. While our schedule adapts based on activities and seasons, we've found a rhythm that works for us. Here's a glimpse into our typical day:
Daily Schedule
Note: Our school day doesn't end at 3 PM. The extended Quiet Time in the middle of the day provides everyone with a much-needed break, allowing us to stretch our learning into the late afternoon.
I think it’s worth noting that the average amount of time each child spends on schoolwork each day:
C1 (10-year-old)
Morning Work: 20 min
Reading/Literature: 30 min
Math: 30 min
Writing: 30-45 min
Content Work: 45 min
Independent Reading: ~30-60 min
Total: ~3-3.5 hours/day
C2 (8-year-old)
Morning Work: 15 min
Reading: 30 min
Writing/Spelling: 30 min
Content Work: 30-45 min
Independent Reading: ~30-45 min
Total: ~2.5-3 hours/day
C3 (5-year-old)
Morning Work: 10 min
Reading Lesson: 20 min
General School Work: 20 min
Total: ~50 min/day
So, taking that all together means that I am spending roughly 4-5 hours a day on schoolwork, lucky me!
Weekly Routine
Our weekly schedule varies, especially with extracurricular activities and our homeschool co-op. Here's a snapshot of our current week:
Note: On co-op days, we typically don't schedule additional school work. However, this means that sometimes the kids have assignments to complete over the weekend to stay on track. They might grumble, but we emphasize that the flexibility during the week comes with the responsibility of catching up when needed.
